2001-Now Current Militaria:
In 2002, the OKC3S was under contract to be made by the Ontario Knife Company. This bayonet looks similar to the Ka-Bar fighting knife except it doesn’t have a fuller. The OKC3S was found by the Marines to be a much better weapon than the M7 or the M9 because it had a much sharper point and was much heavier in general. This made it easier to penetrate the body armor that the enemy may be wearing. Other improvements to this bayonet versus earlier versions were the serrations neat the handle. It made it a much better utility knife than the earlier versions. There are civilian versions of this bayonet available and they were all made by the Ontario Knife Company. OKC3S’s all have 8 inch blades and they weigh just over a pound with it’s sheath on. The scabbard and the grip was made with a tan khaki color to match the rest of the gear in the Marine Corps’ coyote tan color. You could also get an additional leg strap to carry the OKC3S. It also had a noticeable noise reduction over older versions of the bayonet. Currently the M10 bayonet is being issued as a replacement for the M9. It has a different style of handle so that there are no places on the hand that will be blistered when using it. It still has the wire cutter and screwdriver implemented into it. The 7 inch blade also has milled saw teeth on the top of it.
